RARE FRENCH HUSSAR\'S SWORD SABRE REVOLUTIONARY TO NAPOLEONIC PERIOD :
$909.00

For sale is a classic sabre from France\'s Revolutionary Period, known as the \'Sabre des hussards Modèle 1777\'. This particular sword was made by DUPONT, who was one of a half dozen sword makers operating in Paris during the Revolution, from 1793-1799. Most blades of this period were unmarked and were pulled from stock at Klingenthal or other Republican armories. With a curved fullered single-edged blade, brass stirrup hilt struck with the maker\'s name \'DUPONT\' on the outside of the knuckle guard, leather-covered wooden grip, showing minor damage. The blade itself is 32 1/4\" (82 cm) in length and a respectable width of 1.5\" (3.8 cm) at the hilt. Some minor surface staining and peppery pitting on bottom third of the blade, in addition to evidence of old edge sharpening (now dull).
