Rare GEORGIAN Solid Silver SUGAR TEA TONGS 1765 Hallmarked Sterling SUPERB NR
London: Stephen Adams - Scissor Action - VERY RARE PAIR

This is a lovely pair of EARLY GEORGE III solid sterling silver tea or sugar tongs (or sugar nips as I believe they are called in the USA) which was made in London, England inabout 1765by the illustrious Georgian silversmith,Stephen Adams I athisSt Ann\'s Lane workshops. They are 5 1/8\" long and 2\" wide across the handles. They weigh in at40.7 grams -well over 1 1/4troy oz. They havetruncated pearfinger rings with flying scrolls,S scroll arms with ring cushions, a round interlocking box hinge which NOT engraved,C scrolled shafts andextended five lobed grips.

They are in very good condition with the usual light surface scratching, no dents or dings and with only a little lack of symmetry and NO repairs - SUPERB. They are hallmarked withSA and lion passant (sterling silver assay mark) to each of the handles showing that they were hallmarked in London in about 1765. These tongs are clearly from the 1760\'s as referenced by the seminal work on Eighteenth Century Silver Tea Tongs by the esteemed Dr David Shlosberg. I have shown the hallmark so that you can make up your own mind. Postage will beFREE within the UK and 3.50GBP to international destinations.
