This Hochst hand painted porcelain group of a wild boar being attackedby dogs was made in Germany in the Hochst factory from the 1750\'s to 1796 whenit closed. All 18th cent. Hochst pieces are rare and this is an unusualand complicated piece with great composition. Approx. 12 ½” x 7 ¼ width, 5 ½”tall.


Höchst Porcelain:

The factory at Höchst was founded in 1746 and wassupported by the Elector of Mainz. They at first only produced faience butlater (around 1753) mainly porcelain was produced. The mark used was the wheelmark and later the wheel mark with the electoral crown above it. Melchior wasthe most famous of the designers of figurines. After a fairly short existence,as was the case with most of the makers of porcelain in the 18th century, itwas closed in 1796.
