Historical info on back: \"The First Methodist Church of Gowrie, Iowa, began as a preaching point in 1871. Thirteen years later plans were made for the erection of a church building; the Articles of Incorporation were recorded January 8, 1885, and the frame building completed the same year at a cost of $1,200. Under leadership of the Pastor, Reverend Frank O. Johnson, a financial campaign was conducted. Ground was broken for the new stone structure Palm Sunday, April 2, 1950. Numerous memorial gifts made possible a Baldwin electric organ, a Chickering piano and other furniture and equipment. The completed cost was approximately $100,000. Consecration Services for the new First Methodist Church building were held March 30, 1952.\". - - - - - We\'ve owned this for 30+ years in our clean smoke-free home.
