From the estate of a local high end antique dealer I am offering thismuseum quality Chinese HanDynasty (206 BC - 220 AD) bronze mirror, "Tou Guang Jing 头广婧".It is "asfound" and has not been cleaned or polished. There is an ancient chip orcasting defect on the edge. It is 3 1/4" / 8.5cm in diameter. Proceeding fromthe knob outward there is a circle; an eight pointed star in circle withalternating symbols at each point, one looking like a lintel with three posts,the other vaguely representing a bird in flight; a circle of diagonals; a bandwith an inscription of 14 characters; a circle of diagonals and a thick smoothrim. Of the 14 characters, one which looks like a T above four legs (面? Surface?) is repeated six times. Therealso appears to be天堂 for Paradise or Heaven and possibly坊forFang; Shang Fang being the office in charge of Imperial workshops.Anothermirror I found with a similar concentric circle and eight pointed star designhas a longerinscription roughly translated as follows: "Refinethebronze to be pure and bright. Make it into a mirror to receiverightful decor. May it extend your life and remove misfortunes! You are coeval with the heaven above." Please message me with any questions you might have.
