A rare 1796 stirrup hilt Irish4th dragoons officers sabre with original scabbard.

The hilt of this saber is plain design with a knuckle bow and single quilloncurvingdownwards. The grip is in good condition but the guard and spine has some looseness and play. This does not effect the sword it is still a solid piece.

The blade is a heavily curved blade with a single edge.The blade overall condition is excellent and it seems to have old traces of blade and the darkened areas do not have pitting and are on the surface.

The blade is heavily engraved with around 85 % of it being engraved on either side. The blade is by the maker Brien and isWarranted. The blade has manydifferentmotifs and engravings. The 4th Irish dragoons insignia is present.

The sheath condition is good but the leather has cracking and damage and and care must be taken when unsheathing the blade. For a 200 year old sword it is impressive it is still intact.
