Upon discussing this piece with some experts they believe it\'s too early to be a funnel stand, and as such they wouldlabelit a Counter Dish.
The maker/sponsor of this piece, John Wilme, the son of William Wilme, a brewer in Dublin, was apprenticedto John Palet in 1709. He became a Warden of The Goldsmiths Company of Dublin in 1736,and wasappointed Master from 1739-40.
This dish is engravedwith a hand holding a heart. There are two very small splits in the rim -see finalphotograph - which does not detract from the piece, however we wish to make you aware of thisas you look at this very rare piece.
