&amp;amp;amp;lt;div style=\"text-decoration:none\" height=\"23px\" valign=\"middle\" face=\"arial\" A very rare late 18th century Pennsylvania painted hanging slant lid candle box in its original black paint, C. 1780-1800. This piece is made from a type of hardwood, possibly Walnut. It is constructed with tiny square or T-head nails & the small drawer has breadboard ends on the front. It is in excellent original condition, retaining the original hinges, the brass pull is period, not sure if its original. The hanging holes are nailed through the top, into the candle box. Holding it in place is a large hand wrought square nail, which is original to the piece. When I found it there was a small picture hanger attached to the back, for it to hang from, this was removed as it was falling apart. It can hang from the original holes just fine without worrying about the nail coming loose.There is wear to the surface & paint, though it is in very good condition, no major damages or repairs. Probably Pennsylvania in origin, it was recently found in Adams County. It measures 9 3/4\" wide, 6 1/8\" deep, stands 12\" tall in the back & 7\" tall in the front, the drawer is 5 1/2\" deep & 1 1/2\" tall.A wonderful piece of early Americana, offered with !
