Rare Lopburi Earthenware Black Glazed Stem Pottery, Khmer Influence, 10-12th C.
Overview: Unusually Rare Lopburi Earthenware Stem Pottery, originating from the historical site of Lavo, one of the oldest occupied cities, presently known as Lopburi, situated in the Korat Plateau region of northwest Thailand, near the remains of a long-dormant volcano, thus the name \"Lavo\". Epigraphic evidence indicates that the dominant population of the city were Mon and home of the Dvaravati culture, after which fell under the regime of the Khmer Empire, by the 11th century (around the 1010-1050) and subsequently influenced Lavo arts and architecture.

Description: Fine black glazed earthenware, heavily potted of hand-gathered red clay, modeled in the form of an Oil Lamp on a high foot, with a bulbous bowl-shaped body, with open spouts on each shoulder, supported by a tapered vertical flute (flue) and rounded foot, with incised decorations under the glaze, of geometric patterns of repeated circles with punctuated centers, trapped within a simple band motif.

Overall condition is excellent - small chips, corrosion, and pitting are a normal part of the pottery\'s patina.
