The book is titled \'Handbook of Practical Cookery\' and is described as the New and enlarged edition. It states inside:\'In which special prominence is given to the preparing of New Cakes, Jellies, etc; to the very simple recipes for Cottage Cookery; also to various modes of preparing food for the Sickroom\'. Itwas written by Matilda Lees Dods who was aDiplomee of the S.K. School of Cookery andthefirst edition of Lees Dods\'s work appeared in 1881. This miniature edition is particularly charming with an introduction on the philosophy of cookery and its solid sterlingsilver cover displaying a cooking pot over an open fire with the word \'Cookery\' above.The silver carries afull set of English sterling silver hallmarks for Chester 1905 along with the silversmiths initials HM for Silversmith Henry Mathews. Louis Bondy in his fascinating book on the history of miniatures describes this as \"the most extensive cookery book in miniature\". It Was published in 1906by Eyre and Spottiswoode of 33, Paternoster RowE.C. Edinburgh and New York and there are illustrations at the front along with an index in the back.
