this is a raer 1 1/5 inch litho tin Tobacco tag featuring Peter Jackson fighting a boxing match in the ring. Jackson was born about 1760 in the Danish West Indies in Saint Croix, which is now part of the US Virgin Islands. Jackson is in the World Boxing Hall of Fame In 1888 he beat Old Chocolate Godfrey to win the colored world heavyweight championship. In 1891 he tied James Corbett, the US White heavyweight champion for the British Commonwealth nations for several years. I believe the Tobacco tag shows him fighting Old Chocolate Godfrey for the colored championship. The first black world heavyweight champion, Jack Johnson, was inspired by Peter Jackson.
