RARE PAINTED CAST IRON FIGURAL DINAH MECHANICAL BANK

Thisis a fine original, flowing short sleeve**, RARE red blouse version of thisbank which was made by John Harper & Co., Ltd in England circa 1911.The bust type of banks are mechanicalsin which the English excelled. Onthe back of the bank is the name DINAH in largecapital block letters and the British registration number.

Operationof the bank is the same as with most all the bust type mechanical banks. A coin is first placed in the extended hand.On depressing the lever in the rear left shoulder the arm lifts dropping thecoin in the mouth. At the same time the tongue recedes and the eyes rollupward. Release the lever and all parts return to position.

**Thetype with the cast iron arm or \"flowing sleeve\" is somewhat moredesirable than the later type pressed steel arm. A later variation of theHarper Dinah bank comes with the regular sleeve Jolly N type arm. Apparently itwas more economical and practical to produce, utilizing the same arm as on someof the other Harper bust banks.

Condition: Originalfinish, no damage or repairs evident. Best eye colour I have seen in a long time. Mechanism works.
