* Great year to have (1776)
The front page has a "Six Pounds Reward" for four men who deserted the military, with details, plus a lengthy "Ten Pounds Reward" ad for 2 runaway indentured servants. Page 2 has a report from Williamsburg noting that: "...near a hundred of the enemy landed at Norfolk, from the men of war, under a heavy firing of canon...They had set 3 houses on fire but were soon forced to retire....Three of our men were killed by cannon shot...". This is followed by a report from Cambridge of a military encounter.
Page 3 has an item from New York noting: "The town is in the greatest confusion. The Congress have recommended for the inhabitants to move out...Lord Sterling came to town this morning with Jersey forces." followed by another letter form New York: "...that Gen. Clinton was only come to pay him a visit on his way & that the troops should not land here...thought necessary to keep a strict look out for fear they should land by surprize...Nothing hostile has yet commenced, but god knows how soon it may...".
Four pages, Royal coat-of-arms in the masthead, water stain near the bottom, some foxing to the right & bottom of the front page.
