An extremely rare andbeautiful Norwegian 925S silver and enamel tea caddy / box. It is hallmarkedwith the maker’s initials and mark of Marius Hammer and the 925S standard mark.For those unaware Marius Hammer was a very highly regarded silversmith registeredas working in Bergen from 1847 until 1927. I would date this piece to c1900-1910.It has been superbly designed being beautifully shaped with the whole piecebeing exquisitely guilloche enamelled in opalescent blue. The silver has beenvibrantly gilded (gold on silver). It is in superb condition being free fromdings splits and repairs. The gilding is thick and vibrant showing no wear. The enamel is free from chips cracks and repairs– just one minute blemish see final photo. The lid fits perfectly andtightly and the inside is perfectly clean. It measures 3.25 inches (8.5cms) wideby 2.25 inches (5.6cmns) tall and weighs 182 grams. A beautifully made importantpiece.
