A rare super quality unique sterling silver military polo trophy cup/beaker. It is hallmarked for London1927 with the maker’s marks being G&SCoLTD for Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co Ltd. It has been engraved to the front ‘INTERREGIMENTAL (LOST ½ GOAL) WIESBADEN 1927 With apologies Keppel Bethell’and 2NDRHINE BRIGADE 1. LT.F.C.F.FAGAN K.S.L.I. (Kings Shropshire Light Infantry), 2.CAPT.R.C.WACE.K.S.L.I, 3. LT.COL.R.E.HOLMES A COURT.K.S.L.I, BACK COL. COM. DTH.K.BETHELL. Note Bethell who presented the cup also played in the team as the \'back\', did he make a mistake and this cup was presented as an apology? For those unaware Bethell played a very influencing role in WWI and I know some of the other team members also served. It is in superb condition being free from dings splits and repairs. It measures 2.75 inches (7cms) tall by 2.25 inches(5.8cms) across the rim and weighs 78 grams. A rare snap shot in time, a museum quality example.
