Hi, Sellingthis fantastic rare Sterling silver presentation trowel with a wooden handle. This is sale is for 1 of a matching pair of these trowel\'s both given to the right Rev\'d Joseph barber Lightfoot then Lord bishop of Durham, this trowel given in 1884 for laying the foundation stone of the seamens new church & institute south shields. The other trowel i have for sale was for laying the foundation stone of St. Jude\'s church in south shields in 1885. Both Trowels were made in 1884 in sheffield by W W Harrison & co and hallmarked as such. This trowel reads \'Presented to the right rev\'d J B Lightfoot DD Lord bishop of Durham. On the occasion of his laying the foundation stone of the Seamen\'s new church & institute south shields 27th Oct 1884\'.It is in Excellent condition with NO damages at all. Itmeasures a large 31cms in length and weighs 215g and ishallmarked and engraved as shown.This is an absolutemust for anycollection anddisplays really really well. Allthough there are 2 trowels in the last picture this sale is just for the wooden handled trowel.
