What we have here isan Rare Historic Soldier Civil War Discharge Paper from the Ohio Infantry 88 Regiment, 1863. Soldier Joshua L. Mattoon described with the words \"Dark\" Complexion, \"Black\" eyes, \"Black\" hair... full Document measures 11 inches by 8 1/2 inches. Please see my other paper, photo and postcard listings. Enrolled 25 August 1862, discharge 23 September 1863 \"Disease contracted in Service\". This document was found in an envelope from the \"Department of the Interior\" 1905 as seen on the postmark and was mailed to the named soldier... I do not know if the envelope and the discharge document belong to each other, possibly the document was sent to the soldier at a latter date much after the war or possibly the document was simply stored in this envelope without relation to it? Old used condition, folded document page with small tears at fold ends as expected, minor bumping edges and losses to corners, some soiling and yellowing etc. This is an old used document that may or may not have yellowing discolouration bumps marks scratches soiling creases tears losses etc and other wear and imperfections from age, use and traveling in the mail... as is expected with older used documents... envelope separated and opens fully with losses. Please look at the images and you decide for yourself what this piece is as well as the value and condition. Enjoy for a lifetime or resell for aprofit!
