Rare Untouched Early WW1 British Rimless Brodie Helmet with Liner & Chinstrap:

This is an extremely rare early First WorldWar British rimless Brodie helmet in completely untouched order andstill has Flanders mud on it! It is 100% genuine and original and was broughtback by the officer who wore it and, on his return from France, put in a boxand did not see daylight until I obtained it in 1970. I have dry stored itsince then. It is, therefore in superb, complete condition.

The shell is undamaged and retains much of itsoriginal rough finish – and what looks like dried mud. It seems he put it away in the same conditionas he wore it at the front. I’ve deliberately refrained from making any attemptto clean it.

It retains its original leather and felt liner– although the felt has been eaten away at the crown by moths exposing thewhite canvas base. The leather and rubberised fabric whilst delicate is,however, complete and in quite good order for its age. The chinstrap is complete,undamaged and is still supple – but would benefit from a little oiling.

Make no mistake this is a genuine, untouched“sleeper”, rarely seen – it does not spuriously claim to have been used by arare regiment – nor is it covered in dubious camouFlage paint.

This superb helmet came from the effects of a Major Maltby - RoyalArtillery - a heavy artillery expert and pioneer (215th SiegeBattery) in the First World War who also served in the Second World War.
