A Rare & Unusual Ancient Antique Batak Sumatran / Indian Priest\'s Pustaka Book - 17th or 18th CenturyAn unusual and interesting 17th or 18th century antique in the form of a priest\'s Pustaka book made from Alim tree bark and inscribed with the ancient \'Hata Noda\' secret language.A Pustaka book is a code of rules and instructions associated with astrology, medicine and magic. The content of these books is formed by interpretation of the constellations which allows the priest to make predictions, neutralise enemies and carry out healing of the sick etc.The books are written in a special Hata Noda langauge of Indian origin, which is apparently non-translatable and which denotes key schemes only understood by priests.The Pustaka book is in good condition commensurate with the age of the item, with a woven bark securing band, with no losses.Provenance: From a London gentleman\'s collection of ethnographic antiquities.Approximate size: 7 1/2 cm x 7cm.Here for sale with a low start price and .Do ask questions as required and do please see my other antique art listings and items of interest.
