Rare & Unusual Antique 1870s Wood Wire 3D Stereoscope Stereoviewer +15 Stereo CardsVery beautiful and fully collected 3D Stereo items for the last 30 years. It\'s come time that I pass along these hard tofind items to someone else to enjoy.
This listing is for a very nice hand-held 3D stereo viewer. It has no markings, but there is evidenceof there once being a name plate on the card holder behind the card slot, but it is lost to history.Sadly all that is left is the two tacks that once held the plate on. I have never seen anotherstereoviewer like this and unless you grab this one, you probably never will either.
The viewer is in excellent condition other than missing this name plate. The lenses are very early -I\'m guessing 1860-1870s. The lens quality is not what they later evolved to be. The right lens ischipped along the edge, but it appears the ring holding the lens is original and Im guessing that thelens was chipped before it was put in the mount so the rectangular lens would fit in a round mount.
I\'ve had other viewers that had this same flaw, and am guessing that when making these handmade viewers back then, the quality standards weren\'t very high. The lenses are both clean andclear and they have no hazing, scratching or fungus.
As with other stereoviewers, the card holder slides up and down the rails to focus the card to theviewers eye. The wood looks great! There are no chips or cracks although it could be refinished. Itwas a very fun piece to photograph!
There are 15 stereocards included with the viewer. 9 are beige mounted comic cards and the other6 are color lithographs - several of which are marked copyright 1905 HC White.
