Rare Vintage 112\" x 72\" Navajo Two Grey Hills rug Bessie Yazzie Pinon AZ unused :
$6000.00

For sale is a very large vintage Navajo large bordered single diamond floor rug that is woven in a Two Grey Hills colorway sometime in the 1970\'s or 80\'s. The original tag from the Hubbell Trading Post is still attached. Large sized rugs from this period are considered exceedingly rare and were usually woven for a specific customer. This example measures 112\" x 72\". We are selling a couple rugs and several works of art by Native American artists for a friend who recently inherited an estate from Arizona. She remembers that her mother acquired the rug 30 to 40 years ago.

The rug was woven by the master weaver Bessie Yazzie from Pinon, Arizona. She is known for weaving large rugs done in tightly woven designs.
To achieve a more dense and tightly woven rug, as in this example, it was necessary for the weaver to spend significantly more time re-spinning the wool.
A rug of this size and quality would have taken months to weave. It is also a challenge for weavers to acquire the amount of yarn necessary to weave a rug of this size, adding to their having become increasingly rare. This rare large example of natural wool colors and aniline dye is considered unused and in very good condition with no dye migration or insect damage. Large, fine rugs of this nature, tightly woven seldom appear on the market and their prices have escalated significantly since this rug was created. The supply of larger rugs has also been decreasing due to the lack of experience weaving large rugs among the younger weavers. Feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.
We have also listed a 1950\'s red squash blossom rug and several noted Native American works of art from the same estate. Combined shipping is available. This is an excellent opportunity to own a fine example of the art & craft from our countries Native American heritage. Please note, I used a 35mm SLR to take detailed images of this rug. While color representations can vary among different computers & monitors, I noticed that the gray background wasn\'t as accurate a representation as I prefer so I photographed it with an iPhone also. While the resolution is less, the color of the gray background is much more accurate. I have included that image along with text.PLEASE VIEW OUR response OF 996, 100% POSITIVE AND offer WITH CONFIDENCE. FEEL FREE TO CONTACT US WITH ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS. WE DO NOT CLOSE sales EARLY.
