Thissale is for the ORIGINAL, EXCEEDINGLY RARE 8x10-INCH DOUBLEWEIGHTGELATIN SILVER PHOTOGRAPHIC PRINT of an UNIDENTIFIED physique model andbodybuilder shot and printed by the seminal East Coastphysique photographer EARLE FORBES. This rare print date to theearly-to-mid 1940s in my estimation. It is in VERY GOOD condition,with some light foxing to the surface of the print that is only apparent when theprint is turned in raking light.

Thisis a rare image by one of the underrepresented physique photographers of thepast century. I included a portfolio of EARLE FORBES\' work in my book UNCOVERED:RARE VINTAGE MALE NUDES (Rizzoli/Universe, 2009), and the brief biography scan which accompanies this listing is from my book, shown here for collectors who may know little about him. In his earlier careeras a dancer with the Ted Shawn all-male troupe, Forbes cultivated a sensibilityfor composition and a flair for the theatrical that served him well in hissubsequent career as a photographer. Although he was widely published in theearly muscle and physical culture magazines, his high point came in 1943 when Time magazine published one of hisphysique photographs. Forbes suffered slights and indignities during hislifetime -- he was jeered for his use of a common box camera for his portraitsand figure studies -- and even today, long after his death, even knowledgeabledealers who\'ve seen his credit stamp (and who therefore know better)continually misspell his name.
