Crazy Rare & Crazy Cool!!!Hand made Large Scale Miniature Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus (1907-1938) Circus Wagon, made by notedCircus Artist \"Art Johns\" of Peru IndianaMuseum Quality Display, Est Circa:1960\'sApprox: 48\" L x 18\" H x 9.5\" W
This one is a show stopper! But the show must go on!!! At almost 4 feet long & 18 inches high, this one makes a bold statement for any vintage circus or miniature collector. Bright colors and detailed wood fashioned wagon are more than eye catching, they catch your heart as well. It has all the feel of the early circus, down to the lettering on wagon and of course the lion and tiger.
The wood wagon has working doors and the top wood wings can fold in, probably like the real wagons that the artist would have known. He even put brakes on wagon wheels and suspension under wagon as seen in pictures. This really appears to be a near exact replica of an old Hagenbeck-Wallace wagon. The horses are vintage Breyer horses from the early 1960\'s from what I can find in research. Each horse is tacked to the wood board support and attached to wagon with leather or faux leather straps, brads and chains. Some of leather straps have dried and split over time and need some minor repair work, but we left this beauty just as it is. Also, there are four of the harness collar gold ball tops missing, but those can be easily fashioned from clay or found at a craft shop. Please look over all pictures taken for your consideration. Other than the items noted, this is in excellent vintage condition. The wagon is wire attached and tack nailed to support board.
The wagon and horses are approx 46\" in length and 18\" H and 9.5\" W, the board it is attached to is 48\"L x 9.25\"W. The total weight is roughly 19.75 lbs. The cage wagon itself is 19\" long and 15\" high, 17\" to top of driver s head and a little higher to top of Flags. The bars on cage are actually wood showing the care that went into making this piece.
Personal note: The history of the Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus is amazing and a true piece of American history. Not only was it a major player in early 1900\'s public entertainment, the tragedies overcome by the traveling group is a testimony to the unbeatable spirit of that generation. Please do a search and see the rich history if you love circus history or American history in general. They survived a flood in 1913 and a massive train wreck in 1918 and more. Such performers as Red Skelton (and his Father), Emmett Kelly and hundreds of others worked with them. At one time, it was second to only Ringling Brothers in size and production. The rest you can read on line.
