Rare WHALLEN BROS Saloon Stoneware WHISKEY JUG - Spring-BANK WATER Cure - Super EXAMPLE !!

I\'ve seen a couple of these in the past from the Whallen brothers but they have always been in the straight sided type jug - never have seen one before in this unusual and earlier more graceful domed shape type jug.

Its a Texas flea market find from a couple years ago in exceptional condition - absolutely no damage AT ALL, just a little dust and dirt from years of age and storage.

ThisPRE- PROproduct was popular back when pure alcoholic spirits were considered good for ALL of your kidney and liver ailments - so has great quack medical/cure appeal, too !!!

Sharp looking dark cobalt blue stencil lettering under glaze which reads, \"SPRING-BANK WATER - FOR - KIDNEY & LIVER - WHALLEN BROS. - LOUISVILLE, KY.\"inside a dark cobalt blue oval frame.

It would have been an expensive jug to make back in the time with the 3 different font sizes used.

Early Louisville city directories indicate the Whallen Bros. were located and operating at219-227 W Jefferson in Louisville from 1902 to 1908.

Here is a great link to some Whallen Bros ALSO Note that the E in KIDNEY and the E in LIVER look to be a mistake or mistrike/overstrike/mispelling cover up - nice bit of character !!!

Light cream or oatmeal coloration on main body, dark brown/tan on domed shoulder with a perfectly applied handle, nice crude clay drool where it attaches to domed portion of jug.

Old cork looks to have been in this jug for a long time just as I found it and have left it in place.

Jug measures about 11 inches tall (without cork) and about 6-3/4 inches in diameter across the base. Probably one gallon capacity.

Its in great condition, no damage at all, no chips or cracks, a couple of un-glazed spots pretty typical - please see photo details for an accurate representation. A great saloon jug from a proprietor with a colorful past !!!

Bottom line - just a SUPER whiskey/saloon jug in a condition that could not be improved from aproprietor with a colorful past!!!

These nice old primitive advertising jugs are getting harder to find nowadays and should be regarded as investment pieces for the future !!!
