Arthur Holdsworth Groom, of the Yorkshire mill-owning family, was a district officer in Nigeria, 1905 - 1917.His extensive collection of tribal artefacts included some special pieces such as this beautiful large spear head.920mm long, for a 25mm shaft. It is in remarkable condition for its age, probably because it has been cared for by Norwich Castle Museum and Liverpool City Museum for most of its life before being returned to the family.The metal is tight and sound and rust-free. In as-collected condition and then curated.First loaned to Norwich Castle Museum in 1911. Comes with labels from both museums with their old accession numbers. See photos.Freepost UK.
