Here is a very rare antique Christmas cracker, this incredible fragile object is an amazing survival. There is a cardboard circular base covered in silver paper, sat on this is an unopened silver paper and crepe paper cracker --6in. (15cm.) length of cracker. I have shaken the cracker and can not hear anything rattling, so might contain just be a paper hat etc. The cracker is currently loose, but should be attached to the base with a metal thread which is broken at one end.At the back of the cracker is a sprig of cloth artificial leaves, behind this is a green crepe paper and a separate stiffened muslin fan, these are decorated with silver glitter (now discoloured)Perched on the twig is the most delightful pom-pom woolen bird, very like the Steiff examples, in red, black, pink, brown, yellow and white wool, an orange felt beak and bead eyes.I bought two of these, but one is remaining in my collection. Can you imagine the complete set on your Christmas table!7in.
