Rudolf von Larisch (1856 Verona - 1934 Vienna). Austrian type designer, graphic designerand university lecturer.Rudolf Larisch studied at the School of Applied Artsin Vienna, following which he worked as a civil servant in the AustrianMinistry of the Interior. From 1901 Larisch was made a professor of ornamentalwriting and from 1902 a lecturer in old writings at the Viennese Art VocationalSchool where between1905-1933 he was also a professor of writing and heraldry.He also taught at the Viennese Women’s College.

He workedfor the Wiener Werkstatte where he worked on font design and created posters,bookplates, related material and sat as a judge for competitions. As from 1910he was involved in the GraphicArts Research Institute before working at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna between1920 and 1931. Sein Hauptinteresse galtder Weiterentwicklung des Unterrichts in Schriftgestaltung und Schriftentwurf.Larisch‘s main interest was the development of education in type and fontdesign. Von Larisch war zudemGründungsmitglied des ÖsterreichischenWerkbundes . Hedesigned Pliny in 1903 (Antiqua for the Austrian State Printing) and Stamps Type in 1906 (Font forsecurities of State Printing). In seiner Freizeit widmete er sich dem Segel - und Kanusport und entwickelte eine der ersten inKontinentaleuropa gebräuchlichen Kanu -Varianten[3]Larisch wasalso a founding member of the Austrian Werkbund. Larisch entwarf folgende Schriften: Hewas created a Im Jahr 1961 wurde inWien Donaustadt (22. Bezirk) die Larischgassenach ihm benannt.He was created a citizen of Vienna on 10th July, 1931.
