Wonderful figural bookends of a knight in full armor, lance at the ready, astride his caparisoned steed. Great detail in the suit of armor (including greaves,poleyns and besaques); the embroidery on the horse\'s cloth; and the heraldry on the shield. And high-lighted in beautiful color.
Bronze-clad, a manufacturing technique whereby a skin of bronze was made to adhere to a plaster form through electro-plating. You can feel (through the felts) indentations on thebottoms, those indentations indicating where wire loops were embedded for suspending the pieces in a vat of electro-plating solution. A handful of companies used this method in the early 1900\'s to make decorative household products that had the look, feel and heft of solid bronze pieces yet still were affordable by the middle class.
One of those companies was Marion Bronze of Metuchen, NJ. While these pieces lack the initials MB often found in the sides of the bases, there is noquestion as to their authenticity. The colors absolutely are Marion Bronze.
Condition is near mint: no breaks in the cladding, no dented components on the figures, no mashed corners on the bases. Paint all is original and entirely intact. Felts on bottoms may or may not be original. Both pieces sit flat and stable.
These are sizable: 8¼ inches tall; the figure is 7½ inches wide from horse\'s head to his tail; the base itself is 6 inches by 3⅝ inches. And heavy at 3¾ pounds EACH PIECE.
