Old, unusual Japanese carved wood Okimono - circa 1900, late Meiji period.
Finely carved from light-brown wood depiction of a standing man reading a book -a sac on his back, a woven strew hat, a gourd and a Tobacco pouch attached to his waist.
The carving is inlayed in Shibayama style with Mother-of-Pearl and hard stone buttons (each with miniature carvings like yin-yang symbol and more) and miniature bats.Superb work quality- appealing style and form - great facial features and fine detailing all around.
Excellent condition - a piece missing off strew hat - no restoration - please view detailed pictures.
It measures 15.5 cm tall on the wood stand and 12.5 cm tall by itself.
