This technique takes its roots form a legend: “After Jesus was captured, Marry came to Pontius Pilatewith prayer to release her Son. She had brought gifts in the apron. Those were 12 eggs. Pilatehesitated as he feared Jews and he gave negative answer. With despair in her hands the apron hasfolen from Marries hands and eggs rolled on the pavement and scratched. That’s how Scratchedpysanka is believed to appear.To make colors last longer pysanky are covered with several layers of UV protection.
