This volume is nicely bound in dark,purplish brown leather. The spine has five raised bands, and all edges gilt, and all pages clean and tight in the binding.There is some rubbing to edges of spine and corners.

There is a large number of excellent and amusing line drawn illustrations by Doyle, Leech and Crowquill.

The approx. size of the book is 7.5\" x 5.75\".

Hidden under the gilt, and visible only when the pages are fanned out, is a finely detailed FORE-EDGE PAINTING illustrating one of the ballads, namely The Courtship of our Cid.

The approx. size of the fore-edge painting is 7\" x 2.75\".
