A rare Original Revolutionary War letter/document (NOT A COPY) signed by Samuel Stafford. He was at Valley Forge with General Washington and saw action at the Battle of Germantown. Written on hand made laid paper and dated Stillwater (New York) Nov. 9, 1782. (The war ended in Sept.1783) Measures roughly 6 1/2 by 8 inches. Usual fold lines.In very good condition. In this short letter/note, he is requesting his pay for his service in the Continental Army. Samuel Stafford marched to the Lexington Alarm (Battle of Lexington and Concord) from the town of Plainfield Connecticut. In 1775 he served in the Sixth Regiment-Colonel Parsons\' under Captain Waterman Clift at the Roxbury camp Massachusetts in the Siege of Boston. In 1776 he served in Colonel Parsons Regiment 10th Continental. Samuel Stafford helped to fortify the city of New York and took part in the Battle of Long Island on August 27, 1776. On Sept. 15th he was in the battle of Harlem Heights and the retreat from New York. In 1777-1781 Stafford served in the Fourth Regiment \"Connecticut Line\" under Colonel John Durkee. He fought at the Battle of Germantown and wintered at Valley Forge with General Washington\'s army. On June 28, 1778 Samuel Stafford was again engaged in close combat. This time at the Battle of Monmouth. Colonel Durkee commanded the entire brigade in this battle. They wintered in Morristown in 1779-80 and wintered near West Point in \"Connecticut Village\" in 1780-81. Samuel Stafford had a fantastic service record.This document reads:Stillwater Nov. 9, 1782

service in the Continental Line in Colonel Durkee\'s Regiment, to Mr. Lorben the
bearer hereof and this shall be your security for the same.
