The sale:
This is a complete SPECIALIZED set of four 20¢ definitive stamps FVF and MNH. It contains all non-error printing varieties of Scott number 1862 Harry S. Truman.
The black colored stamps are from the FIRST GREAT AMERICANS series. The definitives were first issued in panes of 100 with revolving plate markings and later in bullseye sheets with corner plates. Irregular tagging block sizes are common on this issue. Printing switched from the A press to the C press in 1993 with new tagging and paper as plate 4. Scott 1862b is condition sensitive. This image shows representative tagging for all 4 types.
Truman had multiple rate usages. It met the 20-cent First Class 1 oz domestic letter rate until Feb. 17, 1985. Later it paid the additional oz rate from Apr 3, 1988 until Feb. 3, 1991. Beginning 1995, it briefly paid the postcard rate along side the 20c Virginia Apgar stamp.
Previous variations of the 20-cent stamp were taken off sale as early as 1988 but postal clerks could not tell them apart. All 1862 stamps were withdrawn from Philatelic Fulfillment Services by June 30, 1997.

Stamps, especially coils may have a natural curl. Gummed sheet stamps will often have gum breaker ridges.
