Publisher: George G. Harrap & Co., undated but 1910. Large quarto sized volume, 33cm, 11.75 inches, tall, bound in red reverse calf with titles and decorations in gilt on the top board. Yapped edges. This is a very beautiful book, but reverse calf is not a very durable binding, and the leather is spotted and has losses around the edges. However a previous owner has supplied the book with a custom-made solander (or clamshell) box, and the book can be read and enjoyed while keeping it in the box for protection. The first few signatures are a little loose, but the rest is tightly bound. There is some scattered foxing throughout the book, but mainly at the beginning and end, and all of the colour plates are clean and bright. There is one owner bookplate on the front endpaper. The condition is good plus.

At publication, this book was produced in different bindings, as was the practice of Harrap, who produced a number of different books in this illustrated and illuminated style in the early years of the 20th century. See also The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam

The book is illustrated on every page, both the text of the poem and many illustrations are in black and pale green or lilac, and there are 20 tipped in colour plates. The illustrations are wonderful, haunting and mysterious. Truly a magnificent book.

The book is unpaginated, but collates complete.
