Pair mid Century bronze andirons, after Giacometti, with gold leaf, signed NR in circle, 1978, commissioned for Nelson Rockefeller.13\" high, 11.25\" wide.

A pair of andirons of this design sat in Nelson Rockefeller\'s drawing room, 812 Park Avenue, New York. These bronze andirons are from the Nelson Rockefeller Collection (CNR). In 1977 Nelson A. Rockefeller founded Nelson Rockefeller Collection, Inc. and had his collection of original works by Diego and Alberto Giacometti cast in bronze and reproduced in small editions. Signed with impressed manufacturer\'s mark to base of brass elements \"1978 (C) (NR)\". The Giacometti originals have saleed for over $300,000, and these NR reproductions have very recently sold in the $11,000 to $20,000 range, please see sale results shown.

Condition and Included ItemsPlease note that only the Andirons alone are included, as shown/pictured. The sale does not include the detachable grate itself, they sadly seem to have been lost or misplaced, we can not locate them. A grate could be easily fabricated by a metalsmith or replaced with a modern (and more functional) grate from an andiron dealer. In researching this item I didobservetwo different styles of grates attached to these, probably from the different editions of the artwork, and in factneitherof these grates appear to match the original Giacometti grate. If you wish to use the Andirons decoratively with your existing grate, they do stand on their own. One picture shows one version of what the original (CNR) grates looked like if you wish to have them reproduced exactly to support the andirons.
The andirons appear to have a gold leaf or similar. Thereis some minor rub wear / marks andimperfections, mostly on the back, that I have attempted tophotograph, andlikelywere there when weacquiredthem or were a natural part of the manufacturing process If you need additional photos it may be delayed as the items are in storage, but I do have a few extra shots that are not published here.

The andirons are in as new \"time capsule\" condition, I know they were never installed or used in our home, and have sat in the boxes since my family purchased in 1981. I believe there were two editions of these, 1978 and 1985. This is from the first 1978 edition.

ProvenanceAside from theinformationoffered here, I will provide a provenance statement with the andirons to the buyer detailing their history. Most importantly, the Andirons will ship in their original boxes, which also still contain the original UPS shipping labels marked \"1981\" and show the gallery of purchase on the \"from\" line, and the delivery address and recipient (my father). They have sat in storage for many years and I only recently thought to research what they actually were and decided they should be enjoyed by someone rather then sitting in boxes in storage.
