This is a classic Meiji Japanese Masterpiece: Probably carved in the late 18th or early 19th Century out of Rose Wood. It is large with detailed, artistic carving. The quality is so exceptional the buffalo hair is carved in delicate striations. A beautiful piece to behold. The piece was brought to America by a G.I. father returning home from post WWII Japan. Asliver off of the right hornis missing on the animal, and a small back-side piece is broken off of the stand. (See pictures.)
