We are selling a super rosewood and walnut bedroom suite that we have owned since the late 80\'s. I purchased the set from the heir of the original owner in a country sale in Georgia. The suite originally belonged to Issac Callaway and was a wedding gift from his family. Its delivery was delayed due to a blockade during the Civil War. Great history on the furniture, available upon request. We have always believed this suite was made by Mitchell and Ramelsberg, even though it has a stencil on the pieces indicating A & H Straus. I have seen three suites that the cabinets were identical, with minor variations on the gallery and carvings on the bed that were marked M&R. We understand that Straus, another furniture maker in Cincinnati, primarily made chairs and furnishings for municipalities and court rooms across the nation. So we figured that they may have traded with M&R for pieces, or possibly purchased pieces and marketed them as their own, but we may never know. You be the judge. This is a really well made suite and will enhance your home, bed and breakfast, or museum. Here is what we know about the pieces. The dresser is missing the marble top, and the family cut the lid of a rosewood piano down to create a rosewood top. The marble top to the washstand is original, but the backspash is not original. It would have been taller with a couple of brackets for oil lights. There are two brackets missing on the bedrails that attached to the top of the rail to add a more dramitic flair. They do not effect the use of the bed in anyway.
