This variety of Dickens Ware is done in low bas-releif and is hand painted. It is sometimes referred to as \"Australian Ware\" due to the Reg. in Australia notation on the backstamp- reportedly is was intended for that particular market. According to Louise Irvine\'s book this type of ware was produced starting in 1937 and was discontinued during WW II. The cup which is approximately 3\' tall and 3\" wide at the rim is in nice condition with no discoloring to the interior. There is by the rim some virtually un-noticeable crazing. Saucer which is approximately 5.5\" in diameter appears to free of flaws.

the cup has the Dickens characters Sam Weller and Fat Boy shown, while the saucer has Mr. Pickwick and Mrs. Cluppins - all characters from \"The Pickwick Papers\" story by Dickens.
