This piece features the applemaid sitting in a chair reaching downinto a basket of apples. She has a blue, black, and white colorscheme. She stands at 6 ½” tall and is in great condition. Seeour photos for a closer look!
RoyalDoulton\'s History:
Whatbegan as a business specializing in stoneware, water filters, piping,and , has grown to include many different types of bone chinafigurines and sought after pieces. The Doulton company was founded byJohn Doulton in 1815 in London, England. They maneuvered frombasic stoneware to experimenting with decorative stoneware usingglazes and other effects beginning in 1854. By 1871, JohnDoulton’s son, Henry created an art studio that let art studentscome and produce new designs for the company. He was alsoresponsible for the new innovative steam driven potter’s wheel,which put the company about 10 years in front of their competitors.
Theturning point for Royal Doulton was their move to “The Potteries”area in Burslem, Staffordshire, where John Slater, Doulton’s ArtDirector, noted the trend in bone china. Noting this demand forprized porcelain pieces, he aggressively looked into moving into thisline of pottery. By 1885, they were producing forinternational clientele and in 1901, and in 1901 King Edward VII gavetheir factory the Royal Warrant and permitted them the use of “Royal”into their name, thus birthing the new and classic Royal Doulton.
