Mikado D6501 (black and turquoise hat, green and white robes). Designed by Max Henk, issued 1959 - 1969.
\"Mikado\" is the ancient title for the emperor of Japan, beginning with the reign of the Mikado Jimmu in 660 B.C. Believed by many to have descended from the all-powerful Sun Goddess, the same family line has been traced through 124 reigns. The Mikado is popularly known through the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta (1885) of the same name.
