An antique Russian Orthodox icon in enameled bronze. It represents the Mother of God, Joy of All Who Sorrow. Depicting the Virgin Mary (Theotokos) holding a scepter. She is surrounded on Earth by supplicants who beg for Mary\'s intercession with her son, Christ in Heaven above. The supplicants are helped by angels, and psalms to Mary rise above them.This icon is a particularly rich version, with many additional figures, including a host of cherubs above Christ\'s head. The plaque has unusual depth.
5-color enamel. Height: approx. 14cm, 5 1/2 in.; Width: approx. 9.5cm, 3 3/4 in.
Weight: 260gm / 9.2 oz. The condition is excellent vintage. All of the enamel is intact.
