RUSSIAN SILVER IMPERIAL SALVER OVCHINNIKOV, SILVERSMITH TO IMPERIAL COURT

We are pleased to offer this museum worthy 1885 Russian silver salver.

Bearing the Russian Imperial warrant.

From one of the most important Moscow makers of the period Pavel Ovchinnikov.

Purveyor to the Russian Imperial Court.

The identical salver in Venable\'s \"Silver in America 1840-1940\" page 184. That example with copper surface.

In unique gently curved corner triangular form. Adorned with an artistically carved Art Nouveau scene of a spider\'s web.

The brilliantly detailed furry coat spider moves down its web. Trapped below, a dragon fly. Its long richly detailed two sets of wings, as real. A single maple leaf, to the side adds even more visual intrigue to the design.

Atop boldly cast acorn and winged leaf pine cone centre globe tip feet.

Russian silver Imperial salver is 13 inches and 32 1/2 (standard) ounces.

Hallmarked as shown, well struck. Including maker, assayer and Imperial warrant.

In excellent condition. Rich lusterous silver patina throughout. The insects retain their original life like hand chased finish detail. Stands firm on table or museum display shelf. Bit of mild wear to centre and few barely noted tiny bumps along upper left where centre meets lower rim.

ORIGINALLY OFFERED FOR $9500 USD.

Massachusetts residents are subject to sales tax.
