S. KIRK AND SONS, STERLING REPOUSSE HOLLOWARE WINE EWER, FORM 38, RARE SHAPE - This sterling pitcher or wine ewer is stamped S. Kirk & Son Co., a mark used from 1896 – 1924. The number 38 is also stamped on the bottom. Samuel Kirk & Son was known for its repoussé silverware, where the design was created by pushing the silver alloy from the inside. It weighs 559 gm and is in superb condition with no damage. I have searched for this form in the online catalogs and cannot find it. The hand embossed pattern features roses, flowers and distinctive fern leafs. It stands 8 ¾” to the top of the lid finial. Kirk was one of the finest Baltimore silversmiths and this in a great example.
