Offered for sale is an Original Barrel for an 1875 vintage Smith & Wesson Schofield in .45 S&W. This barrel, and the included block are numbered to the same gun, 2974, a 1875 production first model U.S. Cavalry Schofield. A barrel of this type, especially in the original length and configuration is almost impossible to find in any condition, and this one is very nice for its vintage. The external finish is a mottled grey patina with scattered pitting and the slightest amount of original bluing in protected areas. There is absolutely no evidence of polishing or refinish and the factory markings on the left and right are all present and legible. The \"L\" inspectors mark is present at the bottom of the barrel and the serial number is clear and present beneath the block. The front sight has been replaced by a penny, but neither the slot nor the pin hole have been messed with. The top strap is strait and undamaged and all mechanical services (including the cylinder interface) are completely serviceable. The bore is shockingly good for a 19th century horse pistol. It bears consistent black powder pitting throughout, however, the rifling is visible and distinct and there are traces of shine. It is not bulged or ringed, and did I mention it is uncut!!!
