How do we ship:

Appearance:

The Sailor 1911 Profit 1911 21KT is a large version in this series of pens. It has a presence and the transparent polymer with the gold combination of the demo pen gives it some kind of grace. As expected, the Sailor 1911 Large is a standard, transparent, cigar-shaped pen. The pen’s acrylic is polished to a crystal clear, and is glossy and smooth to the touch. The clip is streamlined and solid, and does its job well without drawing much attention to the pen. Perhaps the most “blingy” portion of the pen is the small metal band around the bottom of the cap that has the brand and model text engraved into it. While there is nothing particularly exciting about the pen, Sailor has made sure that they treat the understated materials with the utmost respect, and turn out a fine quality product as a result. The pen feels very well-made. The threads are cut with precision, and glide smoothly. The fit and finish of every part seems quite nice.

Design/Size/Weight:

As I have already mentioned in my first impression, the design has some twist. The twist comes from the combination of the transparency with the gold trim, clip, and rings. Even the converter is a combination of gold and transparency (not when filled of course). When posted, the size and weight of this pen are just right for me. It is not too heavy and not too light. My hand does not get tired from writing a few consequent pages with it. When it is not posted, well, the pen is too light for my needs. But I have always liked writing with a posted pen (otherwise I lose the cap) so that is not an issue at all. If you like your pen to be light, you can hold it non posted. It is big enough to do so.

Filling System:

The pen utilizes the cartridge/converter filling system, and uses Sailor’s proprietary cartridge and converter formats. It is a transparent piston converter. You just click it in and twist. As aforementioned, it is transparent with gold and that integrates with the general look of the pen. It does the job very well.

Nib & writing experience:

We can agree that the most important part of the pen is the nib - can we? I have read and heard that the Sailor nibs are the best of the best. They produce the best nibs in the world. Writing with sailor nibs would not go anything wrong. It’s a heavenly experience writing with it. This pen came with the 21k gold nib. Indeed it is the best nib I have ever experienced. Many of Sailors pens come with 21k Gold nibs, which is rather unusual in the industry. I’m not certain of the reasoning behind this, as the higher purity of the gold would seem to indicate a higher cost without any benefit of which I am aware. That being said, Sailor’s nibs are lovely to look at.
