LUPE IULE, from San Felipe Pueblo, wasmarried to the late Horace IULE (1901-1978)As a couple they are famous for their “IULE CROSS”. With her husband’s passing,Lupe Iule is assisted by her daughter Cecilia. Lupe signs her pieces L. Iule.Cecilia signs her pieces C. Iule. Wilbur signs his pieces W. Iule. Horacesigned his pieces H. Iule.

Lupe married Horace in 1933, and had sevenchildren: Ruby Iule, Lupe Leekity, Cecilia Iule, Robert Iule, Barney Iule,Phillip Iule and Wilbur Iule. Horace was a third generation Zuni jeweler andlearned the art of silversmithing from his father. Horace and Lupe made a namefor themselves making sandcast crosses embellished with hand hammered and diestamped designs. Lupe learnedthe craft from her husband Horace, and began producing jewelry in 1937.Together they taught their children the art of their trade. Horace and LupeIule were among the most famous of Zuni jewelers, especially noted for theirKnifewing design sets and their sandcast silver CROSSES usually set in coral orturquoise.
