SCARCE ROYAL DOULTON \"WILFRED THE RABBIT\" HN 922 BY CHARLES NOKE 1927 - 1936:
$133.17

This is a scarce and cute early Royal Doulton animal / figurewhich stands 4 inches high and measures 2 1/4 inches wide from edge oftrumpet to tip of ears. This animal / figure is called \"Wilfred the Rabbit\" HN 922 designed by Charles Noke and in production for a short period from 1927 and withdrawn by 1936. On the base you can see the RoyalDoulton earlier trade mark in green together with three impressed numbers whichare difficult tomake out. During the early 1920\'s Bertram J.Lamb editor of the DailyMirror\'s children\'scolumn invented the cartoon strip of\"Pip, Squeak and Wilfred\". The adventures of this unlikely trio were drawn by A.B. Payne (1876 - 1959) and it soon becameone of the most popular cartoon strips for both children and adults alike. \"Wilfred the Rabbit\" had very long ears and in this animal / figure he is standing on a pile of carrots in a wicker basket and is blowing a yellow trumpet. The condition is very good - there are no chips, cracks, damage or repairs to be found and the colours are bright and crisp with no loss or scratches. For accuracy in my description I will point out that, what appears to be a small nick on the bottom edge, is in fact a missed paint spot which has been there since the piece was painted. It does not detract in any way and does not show when on display. This scarce and cute early Royal Doulton animal / figure of \"Wilfred the Rabbit\", which was withdrawnfrom production by 1936, would make an ideal gift or a great addition to any collection.
