The Erzgebirge region of Germany has been home to artisans for generations. In the 1920\'s, they made little miniature farms and play sets, and all kinds of tiny little miniature things to go with them. This bird was such a piece!

These pieces were often used for train villages, and for Christmas Putz villages - the village scenes that people display under their trees each year at Christmas.

I have lots of vintage Erzgebirge miniatures, including lots of wood flatzies from the 1920s,  so take a look!  There were metal Flatzies made in other parts of Germany around the same time - usually made from lead or a lead combination, and by the 1930\'s, when the Great Depression hit in the 1930\'s, many Flatzies were made from die cut cardboard and made to slide mount of grooved wooden bases.
