This is a lovely rare SET ofTWELVESCOTTISH GEORGIAN solid sterling silver large serving spoons or table spoonswhich was made in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1830, by the illustriousScottish silversmith, Adam Elder and retailed by James Howden & Company of Edinburgh. They are in theFiddle pattern and each measures 8 7/8\" long and is 1 3/4\" across its bowl. They are VERY substantial - each piece of cutlery weighs89.0 grams - a total ofwell over34 1/4troy oz. They are each engravedto the handles with a detailed armorial crest and the motto Alis Nutrior - the crest of the Simpson family.

Each spoon is in very good condition with a little less than the usual surface scratching that you\'d expect for their age and NO splits or dents andvirtually nodimpling to the bowls and less than the usual wear to the leading edges - SUPERB. Each is hallmarked on the reverse of the handle with JH&Co, AE, triple-towered castle, thistle (Scottishsterling silver assay mark),y, George IV duty mark showing that they were hallmarked in Edinburgh in 1830. I have shown the hallmark so that you can make up your own mind. A rare SET of TWELVE SCOTTISH GEORGIAN serving spoons in superb condition after almost 185 years - so incredibly rare to find a matched set of twelve!!.
