This is a matching set of 8 superb, large antique gilt brass curtain tiebacks. Dating to the mid 19th century, the Classical style set was most likely made in America. Made of molded brass with a gilt surface, the tiebacks are of circular form with floral borders and recessed centers featuring rosettes. The detail is in high relief, projecting approximately 3/4 inch from the back surface. One tieback was made to match the other 7 and is of carved wood with a gessoed and gilt surface. All of the tiebacks have turned brass posts with threaded ends for wall attachment.
This rare set is in very good condition; all tiebackshave the patina of age and minor surface wear commensurate with their age. They have diameters of 3 7/8 in., total lengths of 5 in., post lengths without threaded ends 3 1/2 in., and the threaded ends are 3/4 in. in length.
